My theme for this art show was based on my theme for last year’s art show. I wanted to create a variety of different pieces that would have a cool abstract glaze that would catch a person’s attention instantly. I’ve always liked abstract art since I was a kid. I remember first seeing abstract art and thinking how cool it was. I wanted to create a set of pieces with abstract art that were like the art I saw as a kid. Last year I only had a few pieces that I really liked so this year my goal was to build on my ceramics skills and create more pieces with the same idea. I created these pieces on the wheel and through hand building. I wanted to push my limits with clay and try to create the perfect piece. I soon realized that I would never create a perfect piece and that it was much harder than I had anticipated. I failed many times with different designs such as vases and mugs and began get upset. Although, I realized that mistakes were the only way I could improve. I kept trying and eventually created a body of work that I was proud of. I realize that striving for perfection can be a flaw and that the best work comes from mistakes.
